Shower
Lyrics
The blackest storm I ever saw
Was headed in from Omaha
And the latest news from Tokyo was a lot of ugly numbers
I was checkin' pay phones for forgotten coins
As the clouds formed over West Des Moines
Got into the house, got the curtains drawn
Got into the the shower with all my clothes on
Hey hey, let the water run down
Hey hey, let the water run down
By noon it was clear that winter'd come
And I just let the water run
And I got soap suds in my eyes
And it stung like iodine
The phone started ringing like a fire alarm
And the voice on the machine was brutally calm
New numbers coming down the wire
Got into the shower with my eyes on fire
Hey hey let it fall on me
Let it all come down relentlessly
You swore that you would stick around
When days like this started coming down
Well, get out the crystal
Break out the good champagne
We're going down
In flames
Banter
- On the original version of The Coroner's Gambit, it went through a bunch of different titles and a bunch of different songs before becoming what it was. It was a much more aggressive and violent record early on. It was called, uh, 'Jab Jab' and then 'Down in the Grave'. This was on it when it was called 'Jab Jab', which is a, a type of West African magic. Malevolent magic. It's called 'Shower'. (2002-04-13)
- This was in the early sessions for The Coroner's Gambit, I came up with this one, and it sorta defined the energy, and we tracked it in Omaha at Simon Joyner's place...and the song didn't quite make the cut. I always thought it was kind of nice, you know, the singer goes crazy and beats the hell out of the guitar. (2011-03-29)
